Environmental Activism On Screen

Every Saturday from 9:00 pm to 6:00 a.m beginning in May, Community Television will cablecast three hours of programming from the EarthVision International Environmental Film Festival. The three-hour time block, which will be repeated three times over 9 hours, is rich with images that encourage environmental awareness.  These Earth Vision films, documentaries and shorts can be seen on Comcast Cable Channel 25 and Charter Cable Channel 71.

Co-founders and production partners Ed Schehl and Katherine Knight formed the event back in 1998 by expanding on their own work as environmental filmmakers.  Each year their efforts ensure that productions from across the globe—from such diverse countries as Ireland and Brazil—make it onto the Santa Cruz silver screen.  EarthVision celebrated its ninth annual fest last April, and played to such venues as the Del Mar Theater and the Santa Cruz Vets Hall.

EarthVision has worked in conjunction with CTSCC each year to highlight the importance of environmental awareness in the community.  Although the imminent onset of global warming has guaranteed a changing planet, thanks to many environmentalist filmmakers, some of it has been saved forever.
