To take classes at Community Television, you must be a resident of Santa Cruz County and you must be a member. To become a member, first sign up for one of our free orientations, which are offered at least once a month. Call 831-425-8848 to sign up for an orientation.

Final Cut Pro - Beyond the Basics

Final Cut Pro Basics

Final Cut Pro Classes 1 & 2 will go deeper into the workings of the program. You will learn more about transitions, and effects as well as preparing your video for burning to DVD.

MUST have Final Cut Pro INTRO or a proficiency in OSX.

This is a combination of both Final Cut classes, compacted into one class. 

You MUST take Final Cut INTRO ($20) or make an appointment for a Proficiency test ($10 fee) before you sign up for this class. Recommended for those who have some experience in digital editing.

Final Cut Pro INTRO

Learn the minimum basics to get started in Final Cut Pro Training. You will learn how to capture and store your video, trim clips, import to the timeline, and add titles.

This is class is required if you want to take Final Cut Pro Basics 1 & 2.

Learn how to refine your interviewing style, learn single-camera techniques and how to organize your questions. This workshop is part of the CTV Weekend Workshop Series.

NEW! Studio Production Workshop

This workshop is a hands-on opportunity to practice and further develop skills in all studio positions. If you are certified in at least one of the following studio classes (camera, audio, graphics, directing) and you would like to get a chance to practice and learn from CTV staff as well as other mentor members, then this is for you. Students will run through practice scenarios of the most common studio situations, with real crew and talent in a learning-friendly environment. This class is also a great networking opportunity to meet other studio producers and crew. Although required for those seeking CTV Studio Director certification, this workshop is also ideal for those wishing to brush up on directing, audio, and graphics.

At our Orientation we will give you an overview of everything Community Television offers. Orientation is no longer REQUIRED to become a member. Studio Camera

Learn how to operate studio cameras.  This class is also required if you want to take the Studio Tricaster Director class.

Studio Director 1 - Part 1 of 2

Part 1:

Part 1 to focus on the fundamentals of being a television studio Director as well as to provide a basic working knowledge of the CTV control room equipment that a Director must know how operate. Topics covered will include basics of multi-camera shooting, crew management, working with talent, the use of Rundowns, A/V scripts and other tools to help prepare and execute a successful studio production. The class will also include hands-on video switcher training, and how to incorporate digital audio, video, still images and graphics utilizing the features of our studio software and hardware (Tricaster). Since this class draws upon information taught in the other studio classes, it is recommended that you complete as many of the other classes as possible and work on a few shows before taking this class (must at least meet basic class prerequisites).

*Prerequisites: Certified in at least Studio Camera and has crewed on a minimum of one studio show (may be a staff or public access production).

Studio Director 2 - Part 2 of 2

Part 2 is completed by attending one of our Studio Production Workshops during which you will get a hands-on opportunity to direct a real crew and talent in a learning-friendly environment. Successful completion of this workshop along with Studio Director Part 1 provides CTV Director certification.

Studio Graphics

The class will focus on basic operation of the Studio LiveText graphics workstation and LiveText titling software and how to create/save/load Text titler playlists on the TriCaster Broadcast. Includes practice time.

Studio PSA Workshop
